The 1988 academic paper entitled What Moves Stock Prices? offered a surprising finding. Namely, it showed that in the majority of cases in which the market moved by a measurable amount, there was absolutely no obvious causal connection to an event in the economy or society. This paper updates the findings from the earlier research through 2012. Authored by Brad Cornell at California Institute of Technology.
